Social Issues in Language Education

The study of social issues in language education is an interdisciplinary field that explores the sociocultural, political, and ethical aspects of language teaching and learning. It investigates how language education is influenced by and, in turn, influences broader social and cultural contexts. Researchers in this field examine issues such as language policies, power dynamics, linguistic discrimination, language and identity, bilingual education, social justice in education, and the impact of language on social inclusion or exclusion. The goal of studying social issues in language education is to raise awareness of the complex social dynamics at play in language classrooms and to advocate for equitable and inclusive language education practices that address the needs of diverse linguistic and cultural communities.
